About Laura
Let's see...I am a freelance writer and editor and a student of human nature - in particular the nature of relationships. My experience spans across fiction, non-fiction, magazine and business writing and editing, corporate communications, adult learning theory, professional coaching, psychology, NLP, spiritual principles and The Law of Attraction.
Initially trained as a journalist, I spent the first 13 years of my professional career as a director of employee communications, corporate training and client relations. The majority of this experience was spent on the ground floor of a technology-meets-Wall Street start up during the Internet boom. Talk about trial by fire!
Then, through challenging circumstances that were both personally and professionally clarifying, I left the corporate world to start my own business as a professional coach. By taking the best parts of my corporate experience, I found that I could help people line up their careers and relationships to match their strengths and what they really want in this lifetime. For the next three years I immersed myself in coaching theory, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), The Law of Attraction and similar disciplines - and ultimately enrolled in a master's program in Psychology at the California Graduate Institute. With enthusiastic clients and experience under my belt, things were cooking.
But something happened along the way.
Being a coach is a funny thing. If you're lucky, you can't help but coach yourself all the time. What I found was that as much as I loved coaching, my identity as a writer that I'd packed away years ago continued to gnaw at me.
So, I shifted gears. Took the leap. Bit the bullet. You get it. I took all of my experience and passion, and folded it into my work as a writer and editor. In December 2007, I completed my first full length fiction novel, working title "Trying the Knot", from which you can read a sample chapter.
Today, my days are spent working on my own fiction, non-fiction and blog projects, partnering on writing teams for episodic TV/web dramas (come on, I live in LA!) and collaborating with professionals in the personal development field to bring their insights and experience to life on the page. In April 2009, heaven willing, I will complete my Masters in Psychology and be that much closer to figuring out the meaning of life.
Originally from Philadelphia (then Chicago, Boston and New York City), I now live in sunny Los Angeles, CA, with my husband and our wonder dog Bobo.
Happy to meet you,
